Your prices, your business

What would switching to HVO cost?

Use HVO and diesel prices quoted for a comparable date, volume and delivery arrangement. Keep both prices on the same VAT basis. Choose a delivery, month or year; enter separate fuel volumes if your expected consumption differs.

Use prices from your own diesel and HVO quotes. All fields start blank. Include delivery charges and use the same VAT basis. Your entries stay in this calculator; no sign-up is needed.

Your diesel quote

Enter the volume, price and every charge to see this quote’s estimated cost. Enter 0 for a charge that does not apply.

Your HVO quote

Enter the volume, price and every charge to see this quote’s estimated cost. Enter 0 for a charge that does not apply.

Complete both quotes and confirm the comparison basis to see the cost difference.

Method: litres Ă— entered cents per litre, plus delivery and other entered fees. Total euro amounts round to the nearest cent. For a month or year, the entered unit rate is held constant; this is not a price forecast. It does not model emissions or changes to equipment, servicing or consumption. Confirm applicable fuel specifications and equipment approval before switching.

The estimate includes the delivery charges you enter. Budget any changes to tanks, equipment or servicing separately, and review real consumption after a trial.

Before changing fuel

Match the HVO to the engine and the job.

HVO means hydrotreated vegetable oil and is also called renewable diesel. Approval belongs to the specific equipment and fuel specification you plan to use.

01 · Equipment

Get the exact approval

Record the engine or generator make, model and year. Check its manufacturer guidance and warranty terms. Cummins, for example, describes use without modification for its approved engines and generators. Read the manufacturer’s guidance.

02 · Fuel and use

Specify what you are buying

State whether the fuel is for road vehicles, site machinery or a static generator. Request the product specification and safety data sheet. Have the oil supplier confirm that the product matches the equipment maker’s requirements and intended use.

03 · Supply

Check the actual location

For delivery, confirm the Eircode, minimum quantity, storage and access. For forecourt use, confirm the station has HVO and that your particular card can buy it. A brand or network name alone is not enough to plan a refuelling stop.

Understand the evidence

Ask what the carbon reduction figure measures.

HVO is still burned in an engine and produces exhaust COâ‚‚. The carbon benefit commonly described for HVO concerns its lifecycle, including how its feedstock is sourced and the fuel is produced.Cummins distinguishes lifecycle savings from emissions at the engine.

Ask the oil supplier for the evidence attached to the fuel you would receive: its sustainability certification, feedstock information, greenhouse gas value and comparison method. Establish what records will accompany deliveries and which evidence your customer or reporting team needs.

Inver describes issuing ISCC Proofs of Sustainability for non-transport applications. Confirm which documentation is available for your own application and supply arrangement before using a reduction figure in a report.

Add these to the quote request

  • The exact product and fuel specification.
  • Equipment details and the approval you have checked.
  • HVO and diesel prices on the same tax and delivery basis.
  • Required sustainability documents and delivery records.
  • Supply continuity, lead time and a plan if HVO is unavailable.

Turn the calculation into a conversation

Prepare an HVO buying brief.

Include your expected volume, locations and intended use. Add any equipment approval or documentation questions. Keep the brief for your own conversations or choose to send it to Tankful.

No account or contact details needed. Your answers stay on this page unless you send an enquiry to Tankful. Copy or download your request before leaving.

Your fuel requirements

If you use deliveries and cards, enter the combined monthly estimate. Leave quantities blank if you are unsure.

HVO buying questions

What is the HVO fuel price in Ireland today?
This page does not publish a live HVO price. Obtain a current quote for your location, quantity, intended use and delivery or forecourt arrangement. Enter that price and a comparable diesel price in the calculator to see the budget difference.
Can I run my existing diesel engine on HVO?
Check approval for the exact engine and fuel specification with the equipment manufacturer. Some approved engines can use HVO without modification, as Cummins explains for its approved products. General compatibility claims are not a substitute for checking your model.
Does HVO mean zero exhaust carbon emissions?
No. HVO still produces CO₂ when burned. Its reported greenhouse gas benefit depends on the lifecycle calculation for the fuel. Ask for the actual evidence and baseline behind the supplier’s figure. See Cummins’ explanation of the distinction.
Can I buy HVO with a fuel card?
Some providers advertise HVO access, including DCI. Confirm the exact card, station, product, price and any surcharge before relying on it. You can use the fuel card cost calculator to compare the quoted costs.
Is this HVO guide for home heating?
This page focuses on commercial vehicles, machinery, depots and generators. Home heating has separate appliance and supply considerations; see the HVO heating oil guide.

Considering more than one supply method? Return to commercial diesel, HVO and fuel cards to prepare a combined brief.

Sources and method

Cost estimates use the prices, volumes, period and delivery charges you enter. This page does not provide a live quote, an equipment approval or an emissions assessment. Technical explanations draw on manufacturer and supplier sources; the supplied fuel and your equipment need their own confirmation.
