Compare an offer or a renewal

Put two fuel card offers on the same basis.

Use the same fuel volume and VAT basis for both offers. Add every applicable fee from the provider’s schedule. Select a quoted unit price or pump-discount pricing, and enter the price for the period you are comparing.

Compare two quotes you already have, including your current provider’s terms. Enter your own prices and all fees; nothing is prefilled. Your entries stay in this calculator and no sign-up is needed.

Use the same monthly scenario for both quotes
Quote A

Every charge counts. Enter 0 if there is no fee.

If a fee is charged annually per card, multiply it by your card count and include that total in the annual account fee. Do not also enter it as a monthly card fee. Include required service, invoice or minimum-use charges in other monthly fees. Exclude charges already in the unit price.

Enter the volume, price and every charge to see this quote’s estimated cost. Enter 0 for a charge that does not apply.

Quote B

Every charge counts. Enter 0 if there is no fee.

If a fee is charged annually per card, multiply it by your card count and include that total in the annual account fee. Do not also enter it as a monthly card fee. Include required service, invoice or minimum-use charges in other monthly fees. Exclude charges already in the unit price.

Enter the volume, price and every charge to see this quote’s estimated cost. Enter 0 for a charge that does not apply.

A cost comparison appears after every fee is entered, both quotes have current dates and the checks above are confirmed. You can still use each entered total as a scenario while you request missing terms.

Method: monthly litres × (quoted unit price, or pump baseline minus discount, plus any per-litre network surcharge), plus account fees, card fees, transaction fees and other mandatory charges. One twelfth of the annual account fee is included each month. The complete monthly total rounds once to the nearest cent.

Check the stations on your actual routes, fuel availability, credit terms, deposits, minimum spend, price-change rules and exit charges separately. If you use several station prices or surcharge bands, enter a representative weighted rate or compare each route separately. A monthly estimate does not establish which provider will cost least over a whole contract.

For the date check, a quote remains current through its entered valid-until day, using today’s date in Ireland. A quote’s own cut-off time and other terms still apply.

A useful comparison starts with a representative invoice period. The monthly estimate describes that scenario; it does not predict future prices or establish the least costly provider over a whole contract.

Understand the price

Ask how the litre price is set.

Card providers can offer different pricing methods. DCI, for example, describes commercial prices and discounts from pump prices. Request the method and full terms in writing.

A quoted commercial price

Ask when the price is updated, when you receive it, which stations it covers and whether any sites add a surcharge. A quoted weekly price is not an annual fixed-price promise.

A discount from pump price

Ask which displayed price the discount uses, which products and stations qualify, and whether limits apply. Compare the resulting euro-per-litre amount for the stations your drivers use.

The total after charges

Add recurring and usage charges to the fuel cost. Spreading those fees across your litres shows an effective price per litre. Keep optional extras separate until you have decided you need them.

Fit matters as well as price

Check the stations, controls and contract.

A card needs to work on an ordinary week for your business. Ask the provider to demonstrate the details below against your routes and vehicles.

Your route and refuelling check

  1. List the stations you use now and a practical alternative for each regular route.
  2. Check acceptance for the exact card product, opening hours and access for the vehicles concerned.
  3. Where needed, confirm HGV facilities, HVO, AdBlue or charging individually.
  4. For travel into Northern Ireland, Britain or Europe, ask about acceptance, currency conversion and extra charges.

Provider maps are a starting point. Ask the provider to confirm your shortlist of stops before changing the way your drivers refuel.

Your account and contract check

  • Get all charges: cards, account, transactions, replacement cards, inactivity and optional services, where applicable.
  • Confirm credit assessment, security or deposit requirements, credit limit, payment dates and invoice frequency.
  • Ask which vehicle, product, spending and time restrictions you can set, and how to block a lost card.
  • Read the contract length, renewal, cancellation and price-change terms. Ask for a sample invoice and reporting export.

Maxol describes fuel card controls and account features. Features differ by provider and product, so confirm the ones you need.

Refuelling at a depot as well?

Divide your expected litres between depot delivery and forecourts. Compare the combined cost with any extra storage or administration costs that apply. The right arrangement for your own business may use both. Build a combined commercial fuel brief, or check an HVO price difference.

Ready for a provider conversation

Build your fleet’s fuel card brief.

Record your vehicles, fuel use, locations and requirements. Keep a copy to use with your current provider or other providers you choose. Sending it to Tankful for review is optional.

No account or contact details needed. Your answers stay on this page unless you send an enquiry to Tankful. Copy or download your request before leaving.

Your fuel requirements

If you use deliveries and cards, enter the combined monthly estimate. Leave quantities blank if you are unsure.

Fuel cards

Include Northern Ireland or other countries if needed. Each provider must confirm its card and the requested fuel are accepted at the sites you use.

Your reusable fuel request

Review your request below. Change any answer above to update it. Preparing or exporting it sends nothing to a supplier.

Want Tankful to review your request?

You can send an enquiry to Tankful for review. Supplier availability is not confirmed. Any introduction would be agreed with you separately.

How should Tankful reply?

You can also contact Tankful or call 083 448 6980. Fuel supply and any account agreement remain with the oil supplier or card provider.

You choose the next step.

Use the tools and prepare your brief free of charge. You can keep it, share it with a provider yourself, or choose to send an enquiry to Tankful for review. Supplier availability is not confirmed. Any introduction is agreed separately; your brief is not automatically distributed to oil suppliers or card providers.

Any supplier fee would be agreed separately. Suppliers cannot pay to change calculator results or buy a ranking.

Fuel card comparison questions

Which fuel card is cheapest in Ireland?
The answer depends on your fuel use, accepted stations, quoted price, fees and contract. This page does not declare a market-wide cheapest card. Put your current offer and an alternative through the calculator using the same period and volume, then check any costs or route constraints outside the calculation.
Can I compare a pump discount with a weekly price?
Yes, once both are expressed as the price you would pay per litre on the same VAT basis. For a pump-discount offer, subtract the applicable discount from the relevant pump price. Use a representative period, include station-specific conditions and add the fees for each offer.
Are fuel cards useful for a sole trader or a small fleet?
Use your actual litres and number of cards in the calculation. Recurring fees are spread over fewer litres at low usage, so the total matters. Also assess whether consolidated invoices, spending controls and the available stations suit the way you work. Eligibility and credit terms are decided by the provider.
Can I include HVO in a fuel card comparison?
Yes, if you use the actual quoted HVO price and confirm product acceptance for the particular card and station. Do not assume a diesel price or discount also applies to HVO. For a diesel-to-HVO budget comparison, use the HVO cost calculator.
Will Tankful send my enquiry to fuel card providers?
The optional enquiry is sent to Tankful for review only. It is not an application for credit or a fuel card, and no provider account is opened. Any introduction is agreed separately. You can also copy or download your brief and contact the providers you choose yourself.

Sources and method

The calculator compares the offers and assumptions you enter. It is not a live provider comparison, a credit decision or a forecast of fuel prices. Monthly estimates give a common basis for reviewing costs; confirm the written fee schedule and terms with each provider.
