How these heating oil prices work

Northern Ireland prices come from reviewed public supplier pages for the exact litres shown. Each supplier sets its delivery area. Town or radius coverage appears in the row; the optional BT filter includes only explicitly listed whole districts. No price for a size means no readable published price, rather than a calculated estimate.

England, Scotland and Wales reference prices are checked for fixed public sample postcodes and exactly 500 or 1,000 litres of kerosene. The sample location identifies the postcode; it is not a customer order or a price for every address in that region. Check your own full postcode for a quote, and compare delivery dates and tanker access as well as the total.

“Checked” means observed within 15 minutes and, for postcode quotes, still within the supplier’s expiry. “Last observed” is a dated older sample, kept for up to 24 hours. It may have expired and must be checked again before ordering. Missing or failed checks are never filled with estimates.

Reference postcode checks share a cache and refresh at most once an hour for each supplier, sample postcode and quantity in each serving process, when visitors request prices. Northern Ireland source pages are normally checked every 15 minutes. There is no scheduled postcode search. Different server processes can make separate checks.

Prices show whether VAT is included, extra or not confirmed by the source. Pence per litre is the published amount divided by its exact litres; an amount with VAT extra is not comparable to a final VAT-inclusive total. Confirm all delivery charges and the final price with the supplier.

The supplier named beside the price sells the fuel. A public reference price is not an accepted order or a guaranteed delivery offer. Tankful does not place an order from these comparisons. UK price alerts and price history are not currently available.

Buying heating oil in the UK

Domestic kerosene, delivery access and support for your household all matter alongside the price.

VAT on your heating oil

Qualifying domestic heating oil uses 5% VAT. Larger domestic deliveries do not automatically become business purchases. Confirm the rate and all charges on your quote.

Extra help in cold weather

If someone in your home is 75 or older, ask a participating oil supplier about UKIFDA's free Cold Weather Priority scheme. Register again when you change supplier. It does not guarantee immediate delivery.

A local supplier relationship

Compare the same kerosene, litres and delivery window. Tell the supplier about narrow access, a smaller tanker or other delivery needs before agreeing the full price. Check whether different brands belong to the same group.
